Farrago Design has two distinct collections : SAND and WATER. Each collection explores the possibilities of distinct materials. The SAND Collection translates the old art of inlay to a contemporary format while the WATER collection uses metal casting and reinterprets it using textured forms to make functional sculptures.
Inspired by the texture and vibrancy of the desert, created with camel bone and buffalo horn fragments over recycled wood forms, this is the Sand Collection.
Each object, beautifully onlaid with subtle, tone-on-tone patterns provides texture and complexity to the clean, angular furniture form.
With custom design options and dynamic water based resins as alternative mounting surfaces, the collection offers no limits.
All products go through various hand-crafted steps in production: sketching initial patterns; sorting and grading bone chips; hand grinding and shaping the chips to fulfill pattern geometry and then onlaying the bone upon the wood forms.
Finally, to achieve the materials’ maximum natural luster and shine, the piece undergoes extensive polishing with finer and finer buffing pads. No top-coats or varnishes are used on the Sand Collection to honor the authenticity of the material and the detailed craftsmanship.
Featuring designs inspired by nature and realized by a technique developed especially for Farrago, each piece is individually sand-cast and hand-poured. Since the molds can only be used once, each sculptural piece is unique. The Water Collection includes chairs, benches, tables, and light fixtures.
Water was inspired by the fluidity of materials and uninhibited imagination.
Using this method, aluminum becomes as dynamic as water. The result is a collection in which every piece is one-of-a-kind with a silhouette and texture that can never be duplicated.”
These pieces translate inspiration to reality; since the molds are all custom-made, pieces can be designed and re-sized to fit the requirements of any project. With finishing options in copper, silver and patinas the pieces can be tailored to fit any environment or aesthetic. The Water collection is available exclusively through trade showrooms.
